Are You Ready to Cast an Informed Vote on Redistricting?

There are numberous resources available with information regarding the proposed redistricting proposal on the November 2008 ballot.

Citizens for Quality Education hatched in 2006 to serve as advocates for Glendale Union High School District”s students and teachers believes redistricting will not help but hurt. Contact Citizens for Quality Education at noredistricting08@yahoo.com.

Maricopa United for Student Success is headed by Jay Kaprosy who resigned from the School District Redistricting Commission to run the campaign aimed at getting voters to approve unification. He says, “Unfortunately, thousands of students in Arizona are underserved by the current haphazard system of school districts.” Contact Mr. Kaprosy at 602-246-3820.

Parent organization Preserve Madison in Madison School District believes the mega merger proposal is too risky for Madison community students, schools and property owners: Contact Preserve Madison at preservemadison1@gmail.com.

Coalition Preserving Phoenix School District in Phoenix Union believes the unification proposal fails to show how it will impact central Phoenix schools: Contact Preserving Phoenix School District at sonoranpal@msn.com.

Legislative

  • Actively engage with Arizona state legislators who are pro-public education
  • Inform registered ALIS (Arizona Legislative Information System) SOSAz members of important pending legislation pertaining to public education issues
  • Communication with U.S. Senators and Congressman for Arizona regarding adequate funding for No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Individual with Disabilities Act (IDEA) to establish adequate federal funding for programs mandated by Congress

  • Disseminate information regarding Washington Elementary School District K-3 override and the Glendale Elementary School District Maintenance and Operations (M&O) override

Individuals may register at the State Capitol anytime the State Legislature is in session. The kiosks are located just inside both the House and Senate lobbies on the first floor.

In order to advance a public education agenda with the Arizona State Legislature, SOS invites your support. Please contact SOS to:

  • Use the Arizona Legislative Information System (ALIS) to lobby the state legislature using the Internet. Click here for instructions.
  • Help advance the 2007 LAT Agenda.
  • Team up to meet with a legislator - team with a teacher and administrator for a meeting with an Arizona legislator about the SOS legislative agenda and/or specific bills.
  • Write letters - be notified when letters need to be written to Arizona legislators.
  • Participate in an email tree - receive emails explaining important educational issues facing the Arizona Legislature and disseminate it to your community of friends and neighbors.
  • Learn how to effectively express your views to Arizona State Legislators in your district.
  • Attend the next SOS AZ legislative training session.
