2007-2008 Plan of Action
| K-12 Advocacy |
Active support of K-12 public education in the Washington Elementary (WESD), Glendale Elementary (GESD) & Glendale Union High School (GUHSD) districts.
GOAL: Effective and consistent constituent communication to ensure passage of the WESD K-3 override and the GESD M&O (Maintenance and Operations) override.
- Purpose: Keep both districts’ general fund intact
- Rationale: Required to compensate for the insufficient state funding; passage of these overrides ensures current student services will be maintained
GOAL: Adequate operational funding for SOSAz (Support Our SchoolsAz).
- Purpose: Build on the growth and effectiveness of the organization
- Rationale: Substantially increase support of children’s public education
We will know we are successful when:
- The 60 schools of WESD, GESD, & GUHSD are consistently active in SOSAz
- WESD, GESD, & GUHSD bonds and overrides are being passed
- There is increased community knowledge and active support for sustainable, adequate funding for public education

| Legislative |
The Arizona State Legislature’s priority is a public education agenda.
GOAL: Effective and consistent constituent communication Effective and consistent constituent communication with Senators Jon Kyl and John McCain and Congressman John Shadegg and Trent Franks regarding adequate funding for No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and the Individual with Disabilities Act (IDEA) commensurate with the funding commitment levels established by Congress.
- Purpose: Keep the school districts’ general fund intact
- Rationale: Compensating for the federal shortfall depletes the general fund and adversely affects the school districts’ abilities to best serve all students
GOAL: Intentional and consistent communication with registered ALIS (Arizona Legislative Information System) SOSAz members.
- Purpose: Educate and empower all stakeholders to advocate for public education in the GESD, WESD, and GUHSD
-
Rationale: Informed and empowered public education stakeholders will act in the best interest of children
GOAL: Create an active relationship with pro-public education Az state legislators.
- Purpose: Create a consistent message
- Rationale: An effective legislative-advocacy partnership will result in outcomes in the best interest of children
We will know we are successful when:
- Our legislators are speaking out on behalf of and voting for a public education agenda which supports the needs of the students in the GESD, WESD, & GUHSD
